Why Should I Give?
Did you know that charitable giving is woven into the fabric of your new-life DNA?
God is the ultimate Planned Giver of all. God initiated the greatest plan to reconcile and redeem this world and His people by giving His one and only Son, Jesus, to take upon himself all our sins at the cross. Thanks be to God for his indescribable gift! (2 Cor 9:15). God has generously given us His grace, love and this world and all that is in it, wanting us to enjoy all these blessings.
He also desires for us to share these blessings. Our God is a giving God, and he has created us to be giving people. Our giving is a response of our faith and expression of worship to God. God calls us to respond with generosity and cheerfulness (2 Cor 9:6-7). He calls us to be a blessing to the nations by extending His amazing grace and love to all people and sharing the resources we have received from Him.
Giving is a trait we inherit from God, and giving is transformational.
When you give, your primary motive is to respond to God’s grace with gratitude and make an impact in His Kingdom. Through your generosity, you help the charity and strengthen its ability to fulfill its mission.
Your generosity is enhanced through the Canadian tax system. Donations are designed to benefit taxpayers, which in turn benefits charities.
For individuals the tax savings from a donation can be between 40-50%, depending on your province. This means that you can receive tax savings that you can pass on to the charity, enabling for you to give more. For instance, a $1,000 donation after a tax savings of $450, would only cost you a net of $550!
Additionally, donations in Canada can be claimed up to 75% of your net income each year. Any donations that are not used can be carried forward up to five years.
