Why a Christian School Foundation? The Healthy Tension of Short-Term and Long-Term Funds

Over the past several decades, dedicated and passionate Christians have diligently worked hard to establish Christian schools, leading to renewed growth and opportunities. Starting a new Christian school requires time, effort and significant capital. Today, even a simple addition could cost millions.

People often ask why we need a Christian School Foundation when the schools can use the funds now.

At the Christian School Foundation, we understand the immediate need for funds, and also the importance of securing funds for the future. Our goal is to work in that healthy tension, creating a balance, ensuring that schools have the necessary resources today while remaining sustainable for tomorrow.

Schools are grateful for the many supporters from 10, 20 or more years ago who donated with a long-term vision, allowing their contribution at that time to support a new school in 2026 or beyond. Similarly, schools are thankful for the many supporters today who donate with a vision that their contributions could make an impact in 2046 and beyond.

The Christian School Foundation encourages both short term and long-term funds. Among our various initiatives, we assist donors who gift securities to the Foundation for Christian education. In the past three years, the Foundation has received over $5 million in securities, with over 90% of these donations directly supporting tuition assistance or current campaigns.

Regarding gifts left in Wills, we see a blend of donations flowing directly to the schools for current use and other gifts designated for school’s long-term funds. These long-term funds impact families supporting tuition assistance for 20, 30 or even more years, or in some cases, these fund are earmarked for future use. There will be a school in 2046 that will be grateful for this long-term vision of Christian education.

We are grateful to the supporters of Christian education and strive to honour the philanthropic goals and requests of our donors. Additionally, we aim to honour God, acknowledging that all what we receive comes from Him and must be used stewardly in both the present and future. Like the parable of the talents, we are entrusted to manage these resources responsibly, not to hide them nor spend them all at once.
